This DVD targets the beginner/intermediate exerciser and if you're new to Cathe should be your first purchase from us. The workouts included with this DVD are:

Basic Step: This workout was designed to help the exerciser that is new to Cathe and to step aerobics . Basic Step is a 35 minute basic step routine that will hold the interest and truly challenge the beginner stepper for many workouts to come and is the official training DVD for all Step Company steps . While creating this workout, I made sure that basic steps were introduced, taught and put into combinations in a way that made the beginner have to focus and think, but not overwhelm them. Unlike teaching a live beginner class where each and every workout can change to provide further challenge to the participant, a DVD workout does not have that flexibility. For this reason, I have chosen to teach the moves but not over teach them, thereby giving the beginner stepper a new challenge to work towards every time they do the workout. Here is the breakdown:
Warm Up: The warm of this workout is about 6 minutes and contains basic steps, V-steps, alternating knees, repeater, corner to corner moves, rock horse, L-steps, A-steps, turn steps (horseshoe), leg extensions, charleston kicks, and stretches.
Combo#1:
We immediately go right into the first combination. Since this first combination comes right out of the warm up, I teach it a little longer than I typically would consider doing. This helps to establish confidence in the beginner stepper. After completing the finished product we do a perceived exertion test.
Combo 2: This is a little more complex and will probably take the beginner a couple of tries to master. We introduce knees around the world, cha’cha’s on the corner, and rock horse along with some other moves. After completing combo two we do another perceived exertion test and a light cool down. This workout concludes with a stretch.

Basic Step Format:  Warm- up 7 min., step combo one 9 min., step combo two 11 min.. , Stretch 3 min., Total = 30 min

Body Fusion: It is approximately a 50 minute workout which is formatted as follows: Warm up Step combo #1 Weight segment #1 Step Combo #2 Weight Segment #2 Step Combo #3 Weight Segment #3 Stretch After the warm up you will go into your first step aerobic segment which features moves from videos past taught with a longer breakdown and more repetition than the other two upcoming step combos since you are just freshly out of the warm up. This segment is about 10 minutes long. Now your first weight segment will do squats with overhead presses and lunges with side and front lateral raises for approximately 5 minutes (light breaks in between). Step combo two is a little more complex than one but still on the level of intermediate. It again is about 10 minutes long and features moves from other videos. Weight segment two features lunges off the back of the step and then later bicep curls standing on the floor. The biceps curls end with a little balance option of doing them while standing on one leg. Step Combo #3, totaling about 8 minutes, is the same level of complexity as two but has more intensity added. Weight segment three includes deadrows and deadlifts and then moves onto dips and push ups before completing with a stretch.

Body Fusion format: warm up 6min,  step combo one 8 min., weight segment one 4 min., step combo two 10 min., weight segment two 4 min., step combo three 9 min., weight segment three 6 min., Stretch 3 min., Total = 50 min.

Good beginning step workout January 16, 2010
Reviewer: Danna Darty from Blytheville, AR United States
I have truly enjoyed this DVD and have continued working out with it for a while. The best part of the DVD is that there are 3 individual workouts. Workout one is easy to follow and good for beginners. I really enjoy doing it. Workout two is more difficult with three cardio and three blasts. Workout three uses no weights but has two sculpting blasts. It has more dance-type moves. Great workouts!!!

Basic Step+ Body Fusion DVD August 4, 2009
Reviewer: T Benjamin from London, Camden United Kingdom
I have been doing keep-fit/aerobics for about 11yrs now at home. I have done various American DVD's,as I prefer  these to the one's we have here in Britian. I recently over the last six months or so started doing Cathe's workout's and I find them extremely inspiring, motivating(I have high boredom factor,Cathe is anything but)especially this first of her's that I got.

I was not new to the step, but each instructor has their own way of doing things, even so I find her to be excellent on communication, funny, humourous and easy to explain each routine without any fierce complicated moves.

For anyone new to Cathes DVD's,I would thorougly recommend this one for starting point,I started doing this workout about 3months ago and have now moved onto some others of hers as well as ordering another one(!!), I will altogether have 3 and am already thinking about future ones!!

Excellent!!

An awesome workout...for all fitness levels! November 16, 2008
Reviewer: Anonymous person from Waterford, MI United States
Cathe is the answer for u if u wish to get great results & improve your fitness level! I find that I get a great workout with this & all the bonus workouts are perfect for days you want to add on a workout or just want a strength session. I'm thankful to her for this DVD as it helps to strengthen and stretch my hips joints (26 yr old with chronic hip bursitis)! I am no longer able to use her advanced DVDs, so this one is a Gem! I always increase my weights when needed and challenge myself to add weights to non-weighted moves. It's fun, effective, and teaches you the moves to advance towards her harder DVDs. You can't go wrong with this one! She helped me to shed 5 jean sizes and 38 pounds! She's tough, but fun and wonderful. Cathe motivates you to push further and harder, just like a gym step class, only 10x better!

So beginner friendly! October 2, 2008
Reviewer: Val  from Bethel, CT United States
FUN! FUN! FUN! This is the best purchase I have made since I bought the step I use with it 5 years ago! I started (tried to) with Cathe 5 years ago by watching FitTV. Sporadic scheduling on my part led to failure which led to hundreds (maybe $1000!) spent on mediocre at best fitness substitutions. Nothing kept my interest like this. Some I still have and occasionally pull out. But this...I am here and I am never going back. Cathe is my inspiration and I do this workout every day. The moves are easy to pick up and for the tough lunges in Combo #3 of Body Fusion, I just take the risers out and do it on the step (for now)!. Still, the sweat pours. I am adding more of her DVD's to my wish list every day, starting with most of the intermediate's and I WILL be advanced by this time next year. Every 10 pounds is a new DVD, talk about motivation! Cathe is a genius and she has performed a miracle with me.

Getting back to it November 23, 2007
Reviewer: Andrea Marie from Austin, TX United States
Although I used to be able to do Cathe's more advanced videos, for the last 3-4 years I've severely slipped on any kind of exercise routine. Well, I've decided to change all that.  If you are looking for a step workout that is interesting yet won't kill you, this is it. Once I master her beginning videos I will start on the intermediate ones. Thank you Cathe for releasing such high quality workouts - especially for us fit-challenged.
